so this past weekend we went to oceanside with 4 other families from amelia's(now jean-luc's) daycare. we did it last year, and it was super fun. this year was even better! the kids were older, and therefore we didn't have to monitor them as much.

the bonus was travis brought sea kayaks and surfboards, and i finally got to try out surfing! it was sooo fun! but exhausting too.

it was also fun squeezing into a wetsuit for the first time. i definitely want to try this some more...

cycling

drivers vs. cyclists. the age old war. well, since it’s been nicer, and i’ve been riding jean-luc in with the trailer, i’ve realized that it shouldn’t be drivers vs. cyclists, it should be courteous operators vs jerks! not only do we come accross bad, rude and selfish drivers, we’ve come accross bad, rude and selfish cyclists! seriously!

on a postive note, i read the recap on the naked bike ride and was filled with regret for not going. i guess there’s always next time.

i'm hoping today will be the start of summer weather! jean-luc and i rode in today. we have a dilemma-he loves seeing the trains as we ride by, but he hates the noise, especially the train horn. we are right there under the bridge, right next to the tracks, so it does get pretty loud.

Hopefully this will be something he outgrows.

it's june?

holy cow! it’s more like february here in portland! rainy and cold!

anyway, a lot has been happening. last weekend we went to a kick ass wedding for giselle and gavin, and danced to tony starlight and his band(thank you olivia!!!). last Saturday was the nopo disc golf tourney. i didn’t play since i had the kids with me, but we hada great time anyway. on Sunday we went for a hike to commemorate the anniversary of clem’s passing, and then had dinner and a bath at uncle jon’s house. well, the kids had the bath. what a fun time it was!

i’ve been trying to buy an old beater cruiser bike. jean-luc and i have been riding in when it’s nicer, but my old mountain bike frame is just too small. i don’t know how i rode it for  that long! anyway, i don’t want to commute on my nice mt bike, so i’ve been looking for a cruiser style beater bike i can fix up. there’s a bunch on craigslist, but i don’t want to pay “vintage” prices. i’ve got one lined up if it holds out till i can get to it.

another rainy day. i really wanted to ride in, but the kids weren't into getting soaked.

wow! what a busy weekend!
it started off thursday, when the temps here in portland hit summertime degrees-high 80's threatening into the 90's. we've all been riding our bikes in. jean-luc in the trailer with me, and amelia with lisa on the tag-a-long. it's been so great.
friday it did reach the 90's, just in time for the friday pizza party at mississippi pizza. we met travis and addie and mandy there, along with andrew, sophia and veronica. we were ramping up for an exciting baptism weekend.
when we got home that night, we got word that the priest at amelia's church, father painter, had passed away. he was scheduled to perform her baptism on sunday. lisa told amelia that father painter had died, and she seemed to be ok with it, but i could tell it was affecting her.
well sunday came and the ceremony was sweet. amelia was such a darling, and jean-luc even behaved himself. we had a small get together at the house, then i took amelia to a classmate's birthday party at tryon creek state park. we had a scavenger hunt and painted terracotta pots. afterward, amelia and i hung out on hawthorne before heading home.
this morning we all rode in again. what a beautiful day!

blogging! i'm gonna start and see how far it goes.
today i rode the kids in on the bike in the trailer. it went pretty smooth. amelia played the game of counting fire hydrants. of course, it's a "winning game" so all the hydrants on her side were points for her. i rode up on the sidewalk so that a hydrant would be on my side, but she said that was cheating.
when i come up with these creative solutions, i always think of the kobayashi maru and good ol' captain kirk.
lacey came by work today and said hello, and updated me on her adventures. i told her i was invited to twitter, and she gave me some guidelines on using it, so you'll see that on this site too.
